Political Cartoon by Henry Payne Henry Payne - Yahoo! News
From BBC News: A German student "mooned" a group of Hell's Angels and hurled a puppy at them before escaping on a stolen bulldozer, police have said. The man drove up to a Hell's Angels clubhouse near Munich, wearing only a pair of shorts and carrying a puppy. He dropped his shorts and threw the dog, escaping on a bulldozer from a nearby building site. He was arrested later at home by police. The 26-year-old is said to have stopped taking depression medication. After making his getaway on the bulldozer, he had driven so slowly that a 5km tailback built up behind him on the motorway. After driving about 1km, he had abandoned the bulldozer in the middle of the motorway, near Allershausen. He continued his journey by hitchhiking. "What motivated him to throw a puppy at the Hell's Angels is currently unclear," a police spokesman said. The puppy is now being cared for in an animal shelter. LOL... He probably got away because they were laughing too hard to chase him.
Pure CSS3 Bokeh effect with some jQuery help This is Awesomeness itself... well maybe not, but pretty cool, at least. Gotta have a css3 aware browser to view it, though... IE8 doesn't cut it.
Several news reporters have tried to put in perspective the power released during the Chilean earthquake. More powerful than an atomic bomb, 500 times more power than the Haiti earthquke... but man, this really does it for me. I mean, what else could change time? Millions of clocks and watches around the world are now rendered obsolete, because there are no longer 24 hours in a day. And shifted the Earths axis! Wow!

Well, at least now I have an excuse for being late for work, by 1.26 milliseconds. And the old saying in the real estate biz... 'location, location, location'... This just proves how true. The Nasa scientists say that the Chile earthquake, while much smaller (at 8.8) than the 2004 Sumatran earthquake (at 9.1) had a much greater effect because of Chile's location. Well, there you go!

Power ON!

Woo Hoo! Power! We lost our electricity here late Thursday night, it just came back on about an hour and a half ago. 65 hours without electricity. Fortunately our water heater is gas powered. We had hot water and enough heat from the water heater to keep the temp downstairs at around 68f.

We had some pretty serious wind Thursday night, news reports said of the 400,000 PSNH customers, something like 350,000 of them lost power. Over a million total in the New England states!

To add a little salt to the wound, I got sick Thursday, and had a second interview for a job Friday. Had to shave in semi -dark, with a blade. I hope I get the job.

Well, I was sick all weekend and got kinda bored with no computer. I played a lot of board games with the kids, which I should do more of anyway! Does anyone play GO?
An amazing poetry of motion and sound... this all done long before computers and electronics took over. Each motion would be choreographed through a series of mechanical cams, gears and other linkages. Of course, as one commenter pointed out, it does make for a long day for the operator. I do believe these machines are more than half a century old, have been working near continuously for that long, and are ready keep pumping for another half century.

I've just completed moving my blog from WillyP.RantThisSpace.com to RantThisSpace.com. I've set up a redirect at the old location so any links to the old location get sent here.

At the moment it is just a transfer but I have some plans to expand this. For the moment This will do, though. The wiki that was here is gone, all the good pages from it have been copied to this blog.

Stay tuned...

Mom: Son in coma heard everything for 23 years - Yahoo! News

Can you imagine being awake, conscious for 23 years, but unable to move? You can hear and see, but everyone thinks you are in a vegetative state? It's unfathomable.

Rom Houben, 46, had a car crash in 1983 and doctors thought he had sunk into a coma. His family continued to believe their son was conscious and sought further medical advice.

Of course, his parents knew better, and could not accept the diagnosis. Their persistence finally paid off when a specialist put Rom through a PET scan that indicated he was conscious.

WOW, I just can't imagine the frustation this man must have experianced for twenty three freaking years... unable to move even enough to show he was there...

"You have to imagine yourself lying in bed wanting to speak and move but unable to do so — while in your head you are OK," Dr. Vanhaudenhuyse said. "It was extremely difficult for him and he showed a lot of anger, which is normal since he was very frustrated," she said.

Unemployed.

Yeah, you heard it right: I, WillyP, 11/6/2009 am unemployed. Laid off, due to lack of work. I got the boot yesterday after lunch, after working for Keller for more than four years. Well, I guess the writing had been on the wall for some time now. And with the loss of a major contract things haven't been looking too good for some time. Quite a few people had already been axed, so I am not the first to go. With the economy still in the dumps, I am not hopeful of being called back anytime soon.

Marcelino Pantoja is Contemplating.

I work in a woodworking shop, and we are refinishing some cabinetry from Yale University. Student desks from the dorm. We found lots of names and messages written on them but one in particular stood out: "I, MARCELINO PANTOJA, AUG.4,2002, AM IN CONTEMPLATION......."
Drawer with words scribed into the top edge of the side.

Now, I am very curious what a collage kid, Yale no less, would be contemplating...
