I changed my seat cover today. When I got the bike the seat had duct tape holding it together. It looked pretty bad, so I had covered it with some self adhesive foam. It worked pretty good but was still pretty efn ugly!
So I whined about it in a thread on the
Concours Forum and to shut me up
New Hampshire Steve sent me his old one. ;)
His is a newer bike and the foam is quite a bit different, so it didn't fit very well but it looks a heck of a lot better than the old one! I added some re-bond (carpet padding) to add some thickness to the old foam, and to build up the hump in the middle of the seat. I cut a piece of the re-bond to the size of the pan, and put that between the pan and the original foam. Then glued some strip in the middle of the seat to fill the hump. I didn't fill it completely, so unfortunately there is a lot of slack in the cover right where I sit. I guess I will see how well that works this summer.
The hardest part was getting the staples to hold, I tried using a t-50 stapler... it worked, but I can't say well. :P Then I went looking to see what kind of stapler I
should have used and found this page:
