"Millions of people across the world have watched Zaidi hurl his shoes at Bush and call the man who started the war in Iraq a "dog," both great insults in the Middle East.

Shoe-throwing Iraqi reporter set to be released - Yahoo! News

Ok so the guy was in Iraqi jail for three years, now, apparently he is a hero to some...

"Venezuela's anti-American President Hugo Chavez called him courageous; a Libyan group headed by Muammar Gaddafi's daughter gave him an award for bravery; fathers from other Arab nations have offered Muntazer their daughters as brides."

LOL... all he did was hurl insults at President Bush...

"Abdul Hamid al-Saih, a senior official at Baghdadiya, said the channel had bought Muntazer a home in Baghdad. His salary has been paid throughout the jail term, Saih said."

Hey, ya know it took a lot of balls to throw a shoe at Bush and call him a dog... If he did that in this country he'd be out of a job and probably sink into obscurity.

"Maitham al-Zaidi said Muntazer had been offered a number of jobs with other Arab media -- but was still contemplating his professional future -- and had been encouraged by some Iraqi politicians to run in Iraq's parliamentary elections in January."

So he went from a nobody journalist to a candidate for parliament... by throwing a shoe??? That's f***ed up! Then again what the heck, as a journalist he's probably more qualified than the lawyers and career politicians who get elected here in the good 'ol US of A!

""Before his deed, Muntazar al-Zaidi was only a journalist, reporting news. He doesn't belong to any specific party now -- he belongs to Iraq," Maitham said."

Ok. Do we have a parallel to this in U.S. politics? Well, sort of, yes we do! Joe Wilson, a South Carolina Republican Representative, yelled out "You Lie" during during President Barack Obama's speech to Congress on healthcare reform. Instead of three years in jail, he's had to apologize to President Obama, and is facing possible censure by congress. No offers of daughters as wives, but it did net both him and his Democrat opponent a million each in donations.
